MID-AMERICA TAE KWON DO TOURNAMENT RULES

       
       
  FORM (Hyung)
  Each Judge awards from 0 to 10 points. Both the highest and lowest scores will be thrown out and the balance totaled.
       
  SPARRING (Dae Ryun)
I. Matches
  A. Elimation--three or most points with two minutes wins
  B. Finals--most points within two minutes wins
  C. All matches--three minus points, disqualification
  D. In Case of Tie--thirty second rest period, then sudden death
  E. Time Controlled by referee
II. Target Areas
  A. Face
    1. A POINT for perfect controlled attack - only foot
    2. A MINUS POINT for closer than 3 inches to face by hand
  B. Head or Body
    1. A point for controlled attack or "light" controlled contact
III. No Target Areas--groin, eyes, adam's apple, joints, spine, back, head
IV. Legal Techniques
  A. Hand--fist
    Foot--ball, instep, heel, edge and bottom
  B. Sparring Area
    1. Point scored if attacker has one foot in the ring (Opponent does not have to be in ring.  Competition does not stop unless both competitors are completely out of ring.)
V. Disqualifications (NO WARNING)
  A. Uncontrolled (HARMFUL) Techniques--at once
    1. Heavy contact--redness, swelling or bleeding, etc
    2. Malicious acts--judo throw on floor, etc
    3. Blind attack--ripping or gouging, etc
    4. Contact to eyes, adam's apple, joints, spine, groin, or back of head
    5. Any heavy contact or injury right after time out
    6. Elbow attacks, knee attacks, head butting
  B. Unsportsmanlike Conduct
1. Disrespect--one or both competitors--at once
    2. Deliberately three times without sparring
    . a. running out of the ring
      b. falling down on floor
      c. turning around, exposing backside of body
  C.  No Refereeing or Judging Own Students
VI. Voting and Decisions
  A. Majority vote determines point, minus point, or disqualifications
 (REFEREE AND JUDGES HAVE ONE VOTE EACH)
  B. Decisions of officials are final except in two cases
    1. if decision is in violation of the rules
    2. if a decision cannot be reached, the matter shall be brought to the attention of the Tournament Director and a decision rendered
VII. Keep Bouts Moving
  A. Referee is responsible for keeping his ring running smoothly.  Any lengthy interruption such as injury or argument over point should be dealt with outside of ring while competition continues in that ring.

  B. Technique should be judged by competitor's rank and ability
